SAVANNAH, Ga. - Authorities say a soldier charged with killing an Army buddy he served with on the same Georgia military base has been sentenced to life in prison.

Police said Pvt. Sylvester Denmark Horton Jr. -- a former Hunter Army Airfield soldier -- shot Spc. Necco McCraw four times and left his body on a dirt road near the Savannah River on July 2, 2009.

Horton was sentenced Monday to concurrent, life terms on murder and kidnapping counts and an additional 20 years for other counts by Chatham County Superior Court Judge John E. Morse Jr.

Police detective Kenneth Whitcomb testified at an earlier court hearing that Horton -- who is from of Topeka, Kan. -- was carrying the slain soldier's debit card, driver's license and other items the day after the slaying.

McCraw was from Shreveport, La.
