The National Weather Service says the advisory remains in effect until 1 p.m. for Dawson, Fannin, Lumpkin, Pickens, Rabun, Towns , Union, White counties in Georgia, and Clay County in North Carolina.

Several school systems have closed for the day or have delayed the start of school. Rabun, Towns Dawson and Lumpkin counties have closed for the day, but 12 month staff must report for Dawson and Lumpkin counties.

Fannin, Union and White counties have delayed the start of school for two hours, while North Georgia Tech in Clarkesville has delayed the start of classes for 4 hours.

The area could see accumulations of half an inch to an inch with isolated amounts to 2 inches in the higher elevations, and patchy black ice is possible on roadways, says the NWS.

Authorities are urging drivers to be cautious if they must be on the roadways.
