Snow Brings Fannin County to Standstill

BLUE RIDGE, Ga. - Some of the heaviest snow was recorded in the higher elevations around Georgia.

It has forced schools and the county govement to close down Monday in Fannin County.

Fannin County received significant snowfall during the oveight hours. However, by Monday moing the snowfall had slowed.

The snow cover on the ground was light and fluffy, but undeeath the ground cover ice formed making driving a difficult task.

The strong winds are also making driving difficult. The wind driven snow made visiblity limited Monday moing.  Georgia Department of Transportation crews were out in force, spreading a salt/sand mixture to clear the roads.

Fannin County Commissioner Bill Simonds says it snowed all night and that treacherous conditions exists. He urged that people stay off the roads if possible.

Simonds also said that county govement offices are closed for Monday.
