Sheriff: Deputy shot while trying to serve warrants

Authorities say a northe Georgia man is in custody after shooting a deputy in the hand during a struggle in the suspect's shower.

Catoosa County Sheriff Gary Sisk said in a news conference Monday that 29-year-old James A. Sherlin retreated to his Ringgold bathroom on Sunday night after seeing authorities who were attempting to serve him with an arrest warrant on multiple charges, including aggravated assault.

Sisk says Deputy Keith Cantrell tackled Sherlin, but the suspect was able to grab a gun he kept in the shower and fire the weapon. Sisk says the bullet hit one of Cantrell's fingers and also struck Sherlin in the arm.

Sherlin is facing numerous charges, including attempted murder of a police officer. It is unclear whether he has an attoey.
