Sheriff: Chiropractor Christopher Lockerman Stole $264K From Patients
PAULDING COUNTY, Ga. -- A Paulding County chiropractor is accused of opening lines of credit in patients’ names without their knowledge or permission, authorities said.
Dr. Christopher Lockerman, 42, is charged with eight counts of financial identity fraud and one count of theft by deception.
Lockerman’s Hiram-based practice, Lockerman Family Chiropractic, did receive permission from some patients to open the credit lines, authorities said.
”It appears that some of the accounts were opened with the permission of the patient in order to pay for chiropractic services while other accounts were opened in patients’ names without their knowledge or permission, said Paulding County Sheriff’s Office Commander Maj. Tom Murphy.
”However, Lockerman would withdraw all of the money approved on the line of credit instead of what was agreed on for the chiropractic services, Murphy added.
The case involves $264,000 and many patients were unaware that they were a victim of identity fraud until collection agencies began calling, authorities said.
Lockerman was released from jail on a $26,550 bond.
