Scattered skeletal remains were found in a wooded area of Gwinnett County on Thursday.

The remains were found off Brown Road in unincorporated Buford shortly before 4:30 p.m., Gwinnett police Cpl. Edwin Ritter said. He said someone walking through the woods made the discovery.

A human skull was found, along with scattered skeletal remains a few hundred yards off the road, Ritter said.

”It appears that the bones have been there for quite some time, Ritter said in a news release.

Police continued to search for additional remains Friday, Ritter said. Officers have not determined an identification or cause of death.

”The medical examiner was out there. She examined the skull and some of these other bones and has determined that it's not a Caucasian, that it's that of a black male or a Hispanic male," Ritter told Channel 2’s Manuel Bojorquez
