Roswell woman Charlene Octelus charged with leaving children alone in hotel room
A woman has been charged with leaving her two young children alone in a hotel room in Roswell for hours.
Juan Llano told Channel 2 Action News that he spotted a 3-year-old boy Monday night outside his room at the Intown Suites on Hembree Road.
”I told the officer the boy was crying for like 40 minutes, Llano said.
A Roswell police detective investigating an unrelated case saw Llano with the child and began to investigate the incident.
”It appears the mom left the kids for some unknown reason for at least a couple of hours, Officer Zachary Frommer said.
Frommer told Channel 2’s Mike Petchenik that the 3-year-old boy’s 7-month-old sister was also alone in the room.
”(They were) that young, in a strange environment, no food, needed changing, basic care, and there was no one there for them, Frommer said.
As neighbors, including Llano tended to the children, police tracked down their mother, Charlene Octelus.
”Her explanations were all over the place, Frommer said. ”It’s still under investigation right now to figure out exactly where she was and what she was doing.
Frommer said that even after police reached Octelus, she didn’t retu to the hotel for several hours.
Police charged her with reckless conduct. Her children are in state custody, Frommer said.
Frommer said the children are OK, thanks in part, to the neighbors who stepped up.
”I think it was awesome the way the neighbors chipped in and helped, he said.
