Rockdale authorities say a man accused of hanging his family’s dog following a violent dispute with his wife was sentenced.

According to Rockdale Assistant District Attoey Debra Sullivan, 25-year-old Daryl Edward Fleming was sentenced to five years’ probation and given credit for the first year of time in jail he served.

He was fined $1,500.

Fleming pleaded guilty to a charge of aggravated cruelty to animals Tuesday.

He was arrested in January after an incident that began when he picked up his wife and the couple’s young daughters at her mother's home in Newton County.

Sullivan confirmed that the couple began to argue on the way back to the victim’s home on Fairway Court. Once they arrived, Fleming reportedly pulled the victim out of the car, punched and grabbed her by her lower legs and slammed her onto the ground.

He drove away with the children in the car. His wife also left the house and called her mother to pick her up.

Fleming retued to the house while she was away and kicked in the front door. Sullivan he went inside and hanged the family's dog from a light fixture over the staircase at the entryway.
