Popular Soccer Coach Jose Santiago Maldonado Killed in Hit-and-Run Accident
A man who witnessed a deadly hit-and-run crash involving a motorcycle helped police track down the driver of the car involved.
The collision happened at the intersection of Moreland Avenue and South River Industrial Boulevard Sunday night.
L.C. Wheat said he was sitting in his car at the intersection when he saw a car collide with a motorcycle.
”I’m looking at him like, ‘Wow, he don’t see this bike?’ And before I knew it, the bike was up in the air, Wheat said.
Wheat said after the crash, he was stunned when the car drove off.
”You can’t hit a guy on a motorcycle, leave him in the middle of the street and keep going. That’s foul play, Wheat said.
Wheat said he called 911 and went after the car. He followed the driver for several miles until DeKalb police caught up with them and arrested the driver.
”He basically said it wasn’t him. But it was him, Wheat said.
