Police: Three Men Who killed Charles Boyer in Custody
ATLANTA -- Three men have been charged in a high-profile murder in northeast Atlanta’s Virginia Highland neighborhood and a rape later that night.
Atlanta Police Chief George Tuer made the announcement at a 1:15 p.m. news conference Wednesday.
”Make no mistake. We have removed some very dangerous criminals from the streets of Atlanta, Tuer said.
Officers have spent more than a month investigating the shooting death of 39-year-old Charles Boyer. On Nov. 22, Boyer was gunned down outside his girlfriend’s apartment on Virginia Avenue, Atlanta police spokesman Carlos Campos said. Police said three masked men tried to rob them and enter the home, and Boyer died putting up a fight. Hours later, three men robbed two men and raped a woman at a house on Boulevard in Grant Park, police said.
”These incidents shook our city, stoking fears even as actual crime numbers dropped, Tuer said.
Three men were charged in connection to both crimes, but police have only publicly identified one suspect, 19-year-old Tamario Wise.
Wise and the two others were being held at the Fulton County Jail, Campos said. Wise was also charged in a Nov. 8 armed robbery, an aggravated assault on a taxicab driver in southeast Atlanta and a Nov. 27 home invasion and armed robbery in Benteen Park.
Investigators are looking at possible links between the suspects and more than 20 crimes in the area, Campos said. Police sources told Young that six people were being held in custody.
Neighbors said they are pleased with the recent police work in the cases.
”It’s very comforting, and I have to say I feel a lot safer going into the holiday season, a neighbor told Young.
