CLAYTON COUNTY, Ga. -- A college student faces charges for trying to board a plane with a gun at Hartsfield-Jackson Inteational Airport, authorities said.

Channel 2’s GA Daily News was in court as 19-year-old Jamil Harrison faced a judge.

”The weapon was found by TSA Officer Angela Holliman on the X-ray machine, said Clayton County Judge Beatriz Scott.

Atlanta police said the loaded .380 caliber handgun was in Harrison's carry-on bag.

Harrison asked Scott if the charge was a misdemeanor, and then had a special request after the judge set bond at $5,000.

”I ask that you lower my bond because I'm a student and I have to pay for student housing to move in, if you could, said Harrison.

Scott said she couldn't entertain Harrison’s request at the hearing.

TSA authorities said it doesn't make sense to miss your flight, get your gun confiscated and get arrested, so they say passengers should check their bags.

Three weeks ago, Jones reported on the arrest of Kimberly Farmer and Rolando Buigas.

Police said both were caught trying to take guns through security. Farmer's husband told Jones that it was all just a big mistake.

”She simply forgot to take it out of her purse, he said.

TSA said anyone caught bringing a gun to the airport could face criminal charges and a fine of up to $10,000.
