Police Seek Virginia-Highland Robbery, Shooting Suspects
ATLANTA - Atlanta homicide investigators were out in force in the Virginia-Highland community of Atlanta Tuesday night. Police were looking for clues in a deadly robbery.
The robbery happened just after 9:30 p.m. Monday in the parking lot of the Virginia Highland Apartments.
Police say a couple was approached by at least one masked gunman.
Investigators say the female victim -- identified as Lisa McGraw -- fled back into the building while the male victim -- identified as Charles Boyer -- started fighting with the robber.
Police say that's when the gunman opened fire. Boyer died at the scene
"We heard three gunshots. Our neighbor saw a car fleeing the apartment complex going at a high rate of speed -- not even slowing down for speed bumps," said witness Nick Fossett.
The robber escaped with the McGraw's purse and cell phone.
Police are searching for at least two or three people but don't have a good description of the suspects.
A series of robberies in the Virginia Highland neighborhood over the summer caused police to beef up patrols -- a tactic they say has worked in cutting down on the crime in the area. But, unfortunately Monday night's murder is a reminder that crime persists.
