Police searching for teen Trevor Rankin accused of stealing car and kidnapping ex-girlfriend
Cleveland, GA -Authorities say they are searching for a man who stole a car and kidnapped his ex-girlfriend in Blairsville, Georgia.
Trevor Rankin, 17, from Cleveland, Georgia is accused of kidnapping Brooke Howard a few days after they broke up. According to Howard, Rankin showed up at her house Sunday evening around 9:00 and forced her into his car. ”He threw me into his car and grabbed me by the hair as I was trying to get out the door, says Howard. She was able to escape unharmed, but says she's scared he'll come back for her.
Howard's mother was home at the time and says she looked out just as her daughter was being forced into the car. ”I saw him grab my daughter and put her down and say 'I'm going to kill you' says Danyal Trevarthen.
Howard says for close to two hours she was in the car with Rankin pleading for him to let her go. She says he was driving erratically at speeds over 100 miles per hour. ”He just kept getting faster and faster because he thought the cops were behind him, says Howard.
She says eventually they ran out of gas and pulled into a Texaco on Cleveland Highway in Gainesville. Howard says two men realized something was wrong, and helped her get out of the car. She says she ran into the store.
Authorities say Rankin ditched the car and took off running. ”Georgia State Patrol provided a helicopter and we searched that area extensively, unfortunately we were not able to locate Mr. Rankin, says Cleveland Police Lt. Aaron Wieland. Police consider him dangerous and say if anyone sees him to call 911 immediately.
Howard and her parents want Rankin caught. Her parents fear he'll try to snatch their daughter again. ”I'm pretty sure he will, he's obsessed with her, I'm pretty sure he's going to try to come back, says Trevarthen.
