Police in Marietta are searching for the driver responsible for hitting and killing a woman late Thursday night and then leaving the scene. It happened just before midnight along Powers Ferry Place, and investigators say the driver left their SUV behind.

Investigators found the abandoned SUV, which is a black 2004 Chevrolet Tahoe, after an apparent crash along an exit ramp from Interstate 75 to South Marietta Parkway¿s eastbound lanes.

A 21-year-old woman who was walking in the roadway was struck, and the victim was taken to Kennestone Hosptial, where she later died of her injuries. Her name has not yet been released.

Marietta police are asking anyone with information about the accident or the driver of the SUV to call them at (770) 795-5300.
