Police: Richardson Threatened Suicide After Domestic Dispute
A Paulding County Sheriff’s Office report says former Georgia House Speaker Glenn Richardson held a gun to his head and threatened to kill himself earlier this month.
The report, which was obtained by FOX 5 on Tuesday, is dated August 6. It states the incident took place on the night of August 5, and the threat followed a domestic dispute.

According to the report, Richardson told an Atlanta police officer by phone after the domestic dispute that ”he was going to Hiram to end all of his problems and would kill himself, the report reads. It says the domestic dispute took place in Atlanta, but a specific location and other details were not given.
The report states that when the deputy arrived, Richardson, 50, was found in the bathroom and ”was making threats to harm himself. It says that when the deputy approached Richardson, he said he ”was not going to hurt himself or anybody else.
The report says Richardson was taken to WellStar Hospital for evaluation, and ”his firearm was placed into evidence for safekeeping.
Atlanta police also released a report taken the night of the incident. It says that Richardson's 30-year-old ex-girlfriend reported that Richardson was threatening to kill himself. According to the police report, the woman claimed she had ended their relationship on August 1, but Richardson continued to contact her. She told police he "continued to call her, email, and text her."
The APD report says the woman claims Richardson came to her house, and called saying he "would kill himself if she did not start dating him again." The officer who filed the report said that while the victim was being interviewed, Richardson called her and the officer spoke to him. The officer reported that Richardson claimed he was going to kill himself.
The APD officer reported notifying police in Hyram, who went to Richardson's home.
Also on Tuesday, Richardson agreed to pay a $500 fine to resolve a state ethics commission probe into his leftover campaign money. The commission voted unanimously to approve the settlement. Click here to read more on that story.
