Police Officer Cliff Rouse Killed Near Albany, Georgia

ALBANY, Ga. - Dougherty County's police chief says an officer is dead and a 20-year-old man is in jail following a shooting at a mobile home park.

Police Chief Don Cheek says Lt. Cliff Rouse was investigating an armed robbery at a convenience store Thursday night when the shooting occurred.

Cheek says the 39-year-old Rouse had gone to a mobile home park in search of a suspect when he was shot in the abdomen and in a leg.

Cheek says Dontavious Raynard Thomas is being held in the Dougherty County Jail charged with felony murder, armed robbery and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.

The 39-year-old Rouse is survived by his wife and two children.
