Police Investigate Stone Mtn. Burglaries, Niko Cryer arrested
STONE MOUNTAIN, Ga. - DeKalb County Police say they are searching for a crew of burglars who have ripped off nearly 50 homes in Stone Mountain. Residents are now hopeful the arrest of one man will lead to other arrests.
Stone Mountain resident Lydia Hansen told Georgia Newsday her computer, television and other electronics were stolen when someone broke into her home through the garage, and let more burglars in through the patio door. She says she just moved to the area from Detroit.
”I'm at work wondering, is someone at my house today? What are they taking now? Are they in my personal things? Hansen said.
Police say in the last two months, 45 homes in and around the Main Street subdivision in Stone Mountain have been burglarized. They arrested 20-year-old Niko Cryer for some of the burglaries, but police say they believe more suspects remain on the loose.
Officer Jason Gagnon told Georgia Newsday the suspects mainly target electronics, and in one way or another, clothing and food. They say it appears the burglars have been gaining access to homes and neighborhoods along some back trails by a lake. Behind that lake is a big apartment complex.
Hansen says she’s already taken steps to prevent identity fraud connected to the theft of her computer.
