Police shot and wounded an armed man during a foot chase in southwest Atlanta Wednesday night.

According to investigators, two officers spotted Yuric Ussey walking in the middle of McDaniel Street and when they approached him he took off running. Police say witnesses had spotted a weapon and waed them about it.

”During the flight, he produces a gun, at some point officers then shoot the citizen," said Atlanta Police Capt. O'Connor. Investigators say Ussey pointed his weapon at the officers. Both fired their police sidearms.

Crime Scene Investigators recovered a handgun at the scene. Police believe Ussey attempted to fire his weapon based on the condition of the gun when it was retrieved.

Marcus Minnifield lives nearby. He says he heard the shots and looked out the window and saw the chase. ”I heard four shots, I looked out my window and I see a cop chasing a man running down the street, said Minnifield.

Ussey was in surgery at Grady Wednesday night. He faces felony charges and is being treated at Grady Memorial Hospital.
