Police identify man run over by MARTA train as Latef Kermit Smith
MARTA officials have confirmed the identity of a man killed after being struck by a train at the Lindbergh station early Friday moing
Latef Kermit Smith, 24, was on the tracks when he was hit. Little is known about the victim, who had a Califoia ID, MARTA spokeswoman Carla Hodgson said.
There were no passengers on the train at the time, said Joseph Dorsey, MARTA’s assistant police chief. The incident, which occurred around 4:30 a.m., remains under investigation.
The rail line was closed north of downtown for several hours, with MARTA supplying shuttle buses. Train service was restored shortly before 9 a.m. Friday.
It has been nearly two years since someone died after being hit by a MARTA train. A woman was killed the eastbound track between the East Lake and Decatur stations in February 2009.
