Police identify couple in apparent murder-suicide in Marietta as Henry Harlan Wooten and Kay Cornell Janus

Police have identified a couple shot and killed Sunday moing in an apparent murder-suicide near a home off Scufflefrit Road, east of Interstate 75.

Upon arrival, witnesses told Cobb County officers they observed the suspect, identified as Henry Harlan Wooten, 70, of Acworth, walking away from the residence towards the other end of the subdivision.  Officers found Wooten deceased from a self- inflicted gunshot wound in the cul-de-sac of the 1400 block of Gateview Way.

The investigation revealed that Wooten had gone to the home of Kay Coell Janus, 72, of Marietta, who resided at 1510 Gateview Way.  Wooten and Janus were involved in a long-term relationship.  Although the motive is still under investigation, police said it appears that Wooten had shot Janus in the garage of her home and then left the scene on foot.

The shooting is still under investigation.
