Police: Guards Robbed Atlanta Building
Guards Robbed Atlanta Building

ATLANTA - Police say security guards hired to watch over a downtown Atlanta building actually robbed it. Private security guards hired by the city starred in a video that is baffling to Atlanta police.

Investigators said the guards, in full view of two security cameras, allowed thieves into a city building to steal valuable copper.

The city’s Office of Enterprise Assets Management has begun demolition work on the old Atlanta newspapers building, given by the media conglomerate to the city as a gift. Workers are using large, yellow hampers to disassemble communications wire, which contains copper.

Surveillance video shows a car pulling up to the building’s garage and backing in. Security guards are seen bringing one of the large hampers out and toting it to the trunk of the vehicle before beginning to load it.

A short time later on the video, a second car appeared after the first car was loaded. Then, it was loaded with more copper from the floor.

Investigators identified three security workers suspected of taking part in the crime. Jonathan Tinker, Rhonda Spencer and Vincent Alexander were charged and taken to the Fulton County Jail.
