Police: Bouncer Grant Spencer arrested, teen Michael Gatto dead after bar beating
A bouncer is accused in a beating that killed an 18-year-old man outside of a Statesboro bar Thursday moing, WSAV reports.
Statesboro police say the assault happened outside Rude Rudy's Bar on University Court.
Police officers responded to a call just after midnight and found Michael Gatto,18, non-responsive and with head injuries. Officers spoke to witnesses then issued an arrest warrant for Grant James Spencer, 20. Spencer was later taken into custody, charged with aggravated assault.
Gatto’s public Facebook page indicates that he attended Georgia Southe University in Statesboro.
Rude Rudy’s posted a message on the bar’s Facebook page that said ”Our deepest sympathies and prayers go out to the Gatto family. At the time of the incident, the employee in question was not working. His employment at Rude Rudy’s has since been terminated.
Spencer attended Dunwoody High School, and transferred his junior year to Johns Creek High School. He was on the wrestling teams at both schools.

Gatto was taken to East Georgia Regional Medical Center, then flown to Memorial Medical Center where he died on Thursday afteoon, according to WSAV.
According to a tweet from the South Forsyth High track team, Gatto was a member of the squad for four years.
