GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. -- A Gwinnett County man has been arrested after he robbed a bank, police said, stealing close to $3,000.

According to investigators, Hakika Ervin, 39, went into the Fifth/Third Bank branch on Holcomb Bridge Road Saturday and demanded cash from a teller there.

"The employees noticed him right away. He didn't approach the counter right away. He kind of milled around inside the bank without apparent purpose," Cpl. Jake Smith, with the Gwinnett County Police Department, said.

Investigators said Ervin stuck his hand in his pocket and pointed his finger so it looked like he had a gun.

Witnesses said Ervin handed the clerk a bag, which the clerk filled with about $2,800.

Investigators said one of the clerks slipped a dye pack into the bag also, which exploded in Ervin’s getaway car.

As Ervin was taking off from the scene, police said security cameras caught an image of the license plate on Ervin’s car.

Detectives ran the number and were on the way to Ervin’s address when they noticed his car.

Investigators said they pulled over the car and took Ervin into custody.

"It was a perfect storm of bad consequences for him," Smith said.

Detectives said they searched his home and found the stolen money, along with the same clothes he had wo to the bank.

Ervin has been charged with robbery by intimidation and is currently in custody at the Gwinnett County Detention Center.
