Police Arrest Brookline Woman Marie Carnegie In Purse Theft From Church
Marie Carnegie, 42, Faces Larceny From Building, Misuse Of Credit Card Charges

BROOKLINE, Mass. -- Police said an Allston woman was arrested in connection with a purse theft case during a Mass last Sunday.

According to Brookline police, a parishioner said she left her pocketbook on a bench at St. Mary's Church when she went to communion during the 9:30 a.m. Mass, but when she retued, the pocketbook was already gone.

Investigators said a woman was seen near the bench and leaving the church. A short time later, the same woman was seen in a surveillance video attempting to use the card at TJ Maxx on Harvard Street, they said.

Police said a warrant was issued Tuesday for the arrest of the woman, identified as Marie Caegie, 42, on charges of larceny from a building and two counts of receiving or misuse of credit card under $250.

Police said Caegie was arrested while she was walking on Weste Avenue toward Riverdale Street shortly after 5:15 p.m. Police said Caegie is expected to be arraigned in Brookline Court on Wednesday.
