Police arrest 5th suspect Britannica Turner in murder of Carrollton teen Nizzear Rodriguez

A fifth arrest has been made in connection with a murder of a 13-year-old in his own bedroom on Sunday.

Police arrested Britannica Tuer, 24, on Friday for making false statements regarding the recent homicide.Tuer has been taken to the Carroll County Jail.

Funeral services will be held on September 6 for Nizzear Rodriguez. The Carrollton Junior High School student had just celebrated his birthday when he was shot and killed inside his own home as he slept.

The funeral will be held at Tabeacle Baptist Church in Carrollton.

Officers arrested Malik Davis, 17 on Sunday and Kenneth Wheat, 21, on Tuesday for the murder of Rodriguez.

Police have also arrested Jackqueline Freeman and a fourth suspect, Oleida Ward, for lying to police during this investigation. According to police, Freeman was the get-away driver and has been charged with murder. Both arrests happened on Tuesday.

”I have no idea someone who would do a little kid like that," neighbor Jerime Lacey said.

Carrollton Police responded to a 911 call around noon Sunday that a boy had been shot. When officers arrived, they found relatives trying to rush the teen to a local hospital, but he was already dead.

Investigators believe the fatal shot was fired sometime early Sunday moing.

Lacey told reporters, ”That's sad because like, the little bro got potential, he was going to take his family out of the hood and get them somewhere good.

Captain Chris Dobbs of the Carrollton Police Department described the victim as an ”outstanding kid, outstanding student.

Captain Dobb said ”(His) parents said he was a great kid and no one tells us anything elsewhere.

Police said they have never responded to the boy's home in the past and they never had any trouble with Rodriguez. They said they responded here several times this past week alone to the family's neighborhood in reference to gang activity-even issuing a search warrant next door.
