Police: 8-Year-Old Boy Shot In DeKalb County

LITHONIA, Ga. -- Police are investigating the shooting of an 8-year-old boy in DeKalb County.

The shooting happened Wednesday afteoon in the 3500 block of Salem Glen Road in Lithonia. A detective told Viteri that the boy lives at the home where the shooting took place.

Detetctives said they were looking into whether the shooting was an accident. Police questioned people who were inside the house at the time. Officers searched the home late Wednesday night and removed several bags of evidence.

Kapash Haynes used to live in the neighborhood and wondered how the child was near a gun.

"Stay away from guns. It's not safe," Haynes said.

Police said the boy was taken to the hospital and is in critical condition.
