ATLANTA — Authorities have recovered the pilot's body and found the wreckage of a small plane that crashed in a marsh outside Savannah and are working to determine the cause.

A spokeswoman for the FAA told The Associated Press on Monday that the single-engine, 1968 Cessna 172 plane had been flying to Savannah/Hilton Head Inteational Airport from North Carolina on Sunday.

The pilot was the only person on the flight. Police identified him as 46-year-old David Wentz, who was flying from Causey, N.C. to Savannah.

WTOC-TV reports that Savannah-Chatham Metro Police, U.S. Coast Guard and state officials were involved in the search, and the wreckage was found around 1 a.m.

Savannah-Chatham police spokeswoman Gena Bilbo tells The Savannah Moing News that divers recovered the pilot's body around 1:30 p.m.
