Petition calls for Mazda to pull Lorax-themed SUV ads

As "The Lorax" hits theaters this weekend, environmentalists are enraged over a Mazda commercial tie-in with the movie's tree-friendly theme. Mazda's ads for its CX-5 SUV feature a statement that the car is "Certified Truffula Tree Friendly" because of its fuel-efficient Skyactiv Technology.

But the video already has almost 1,000 dislikes to only 117 likes on YouTube, and the group Rethinking the Automobile has launched an online petition calling on Mazda and Universal execs to pull the ad.

The group says the petition, which has more than 400 signatures out of a goal of 75,000, will tell the automotive and movie industries that people are "tired of being lied to about the destructive impact of cars on our world."
