Parts of metro Atlanta under tornado watch

Severe Weather is moving across metro Atlanta on Friday.

Showers quickly developed into severe storms, prompting toado watches and waings throughout the moing. By noon, all toado waings had expired, but a toado watch, affecting many of the area’s counties south and east of Interstate 85 is set to expire at 4 p.m.

The watch did not affect the city of Atlanta or the northe metro counties, but some cities were still hit with storms.

”Some of these storms have been moving today between about 40 and 70 mph at times, Severe Weather Team 2 meteorologist Karen Minton said.

A toado touched down in parts of upper north Georgia on Wednesday night, but Minton said that area would be in the clear Friday.

”It runs really from Gainesville to Carrollton and southward today, Minton said.

But a wind advisory is set for the north Georgia mountains from 9 a.m. to midnight. Gusts could reach up to 40 mph, Minton said.

Though temperatures were nearing 70 degrees Friday moing, they dropped throughout the day.

”Temperatures are at their highest early today, and then, cooling off, Minton said.

By Saturday moing, temperatures are expected to drop down to the mid-30s. Minton said weekend highs will be in the mid-50s.
