Parents Akbar Cojoe, Shauna Mayers of Infant Charged with Murder in Atlanta
ATLANTA - Atlanta police say the parents of a 5-month-old baby who died at a hotel in the city's Buckhead district have been charged with murder.
Atlanta police spokesman Carlos Campos said Wednesday that 40-year-old Akbar Cojoe and 27-year-old Shauna Mayers are charged with felony murder and cruelty to children in the death of Chase Mayers.
Campos says police found the infant unresponsive Sunday night at the Embassy Suites Hote. He says the baby was taken to a children's hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The Fulton County Medical Examiner's office determined the baby died from blunt force trauma to the torso.
Campos says Cojoe and Mayers were taken to the Fulton County jail, where they were being held without bond.
