Nearly 400 Students Absent At Ga. High School

Hundreds of Barrow County students and staff members were absent from school, possibly from a flu-like illness.

School officials said 379 students at Winder-Barrow High School were out Friday. Officials didn't know how many students were affected by the virus or if they were absent from school for other reasons.

Attendance appeared to be back to normal Wednesday.School officials took extra precautions by wiping down door handles and tables.The Barrow County Health Department later cleared the school.In Hall County, school officials said 176 students at Friendship Elementary school were out sick Friday with similar symptoms, believed to be a highly contagious stomach virus.Attendance there was said to be back to normal Wednesday.
