DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. -- Authorities have captured a murder suspect they said had been on the run for almost a year.

A fugitive task force found 22-year-old Deanthony Hartsfield in El Paso, Texas. He is now in the DeKalb County Jail.

Hartsfield is accused of shooting and killing 18-year-old Dominique George during a home invasion robbery at an apartment in Avondale Estates in June.

George's mother told Channel 2’s GA Daily News that she wanted to jump for joy when she heard the news. She said she ran straight to a calendar in her bedroom.

"I got the phone call and she told me that they had caught him and I just raised up my arms … and just got my pen," she said as she showed how she marked the date on her calendar.

George said she prayed for Hartsfield's capture. Police said he and four others robbed and shot Dominique.

DeKalb County District Attoey Robert James said his office is elated that Hartsfield has been apprehended.

"This is a case where we have adult males that are using juvenile females to set up people to rob them," he said.

Dominique's mom said her son met the 15-year-old girls and was having a good time with them.

Police said that's when Hartsfield and his two co-defendants came in the apartment and robbed him.

The victim's mother said he had about $350 he eaed from his job at the Waffle House.

Tearfully, she wonders why they had to kill him. She said that's all she wants to know.

"That's all. I just want them to tell me why. Why would you go in there and take my child's life?," George said.

The two 15-year-old girls pleaded guilty.

No trial date has been scheduled for Hartsfield and his two co-defendants.
