McNair gunman Michael Hill pleads guilty, sentenced to serve 20 years
Authorities say the case against McNair Elementary School gunman Michael Brandon Hill will not go to trail. He appeared in a DeKalb County courthouse Tuesday moing and pleaded guilty in the school shooting incident.
The 21-year-old pleading guilty to aggravated assault and terroristic threats, among other charges.
A judge sentenced him to 40 years behind bars with 20 to serve.
Hill snuck in to the Dekalb County school last August with multiple weapons, including an assault rifle. He fired a few shots - but bullets never struck anyone. He didn't get past the front office, where a school bookkeeper talked him in to surrendering to swat team members.
Hill's defense attoey says the incident at McNair Discovery Leaing Center was a misguided suicide attempt: that hill never hurt anyone that day - because his only intention was to hurt himself.
A pile of hospital records was on the defense table, showing at least 20 hospital visits since he was 7 years old.
