Man Ken Hagin Shot While Mowing Lawn
A man mowing his lawn in northeast Atlanta was been shot in an attempted robbery. Police said it happened in the 2000 block of Ridgedale Road.
Police said Ken Hagin was working in the yard, when he was shot. A neighbor was at the emergency room with his family.
According to neighbors, Hagin was out on the edge of his property. He was trimming weeds near the street. What he would tell his wife later, according to his neighbors, is that two men and a woman got out of a burgundy Kia SUV. One of the guys pulls a gun, tells him to drop it. As he starts to comply, he told his family that the man shot him.
"He stood up and put his hands up and they shot him. As far as I know they didn't even ask for money, but I'm not certain about that," said neighbor Laura Ellis. "He had two gunshot wounds. One was superficial in his arm. The other one went through his small intestines in several places but missed all his inteal organs."
Neighbors in the Kirkwood community said, like most of Atlanta, it has had a rash of crime in the last few months.
Hagin was a charter member of the Kirkwood security patrol -- a neighborhood watch group.
"Quite frankly, I am really angry. A lot of neighbors have worked very hard to make this neighborhood a safe place," said Kirkwood resident Sean Casey.
Neighbors said Hagin and his wife are restoring an old home in Atlanta's Kirkwood neighborhood.
Kirkwood residents said they've hired an off duty Atlanta police officer to patrol their neighborhood. However, the officer had just ended his shift an hour before the attack.
