HALL COUNTY, Ga. — A Lula man is facing multiple felony charges after deputies say he assaulted a child inside a Hall County home last week.

According to the Hall County Sheriff's Office, deputies responded to a reported domestic incident at a residence on Grove Street in Lula around 9:20 p.m. on Feb. 20.

Investigators said 61-year-old Douglas Lee Motes became angry with a girl under the age of 14 and cornered her near her bedroom and bathroom, refusing to let her leave the home.

Authorities allege that Motes struck the child multiple times on the head with a piece of wood trim. The girl suffered a visible bruise to the back of her neck during the assault, deputies said.

Motes, the child and five other individuals were living in the home at the time of the incident.

He was arrested and charged with aggravated assault under the Family Violence Act, false imprisonment and first-degree child cruelty, all felony offenses. He also faces three misdemeanor counts of third-degree child cruelty because three children under 18 were present in the home during the alleged assault.

Motes remains in the Hall County Jail without bond.
