Man Accused Of Impersonating Officer Arrested

ATLANTA -- A man accused of impersonating a police officer was captured by police Wednesday.

Channel 2’s Ryan Young was on Peachtree Street near Gaett Street in downtown Atlanta, where the man was arrested.

Authorities said a MARTA officer spotted the man near the Gaett train station. He was headed down Peachtree Street when he ran away from approaching officers, witnesses said.

"He was running down Peachtree with six officers behind him. When they got him in front of the crosswalk, they Tased him," witness Tyrone Sterling told Young.

Sterling said the man fell to the ground on his face. Blood covered the accused man's face and the street. He was placed in handcuffs, while 10 officers surrounded him and stripped him of police gear he was wearing.

Wednesday was not the first time police sought the man. On Friday, MARTA police officers were looking for him near the Lennox MARTA station.
