ATLANTA -- Police arrested a man who they said approached a little girl and her mother in Chastain Park and asked about the girl's undergarments.

Police said a woman called them and said Danny Jean Benson, 65, approached her and her 2-year-old daughter on the swings at the park on Tuesday.

The woman said Benson told her daughter she had a pretty dress, then asked ”if her panties were pretty and matched her dress, according to police.

The officer who responded found Benson was carrying a loaded handgun in his front pants pocket. Benson denied asking the girl about her underpants. Police said the girl was not hurt or touched by Benson.

He told police he traveled to the northwest Atlanta park from his home in Stone Mountain because he feared getting mugged.

Police impounded Benson’s vehicle and charged him with child molestation. Benson is being held in the Fulton County Jail.
