Lilburn Planning Commission Denies Mosque Expansion Rezoning Proposal
The Lilburn Planning Commission denied the latest rezoning proposal to expand the mosque by 20,000 square feet. It's located at Lawrenceville Highway and Hood Road.

LILBURN, Ga. - Dozens of people packed a public hearing into expanding a mosque in Lilbu on Monday night.

The Lilbu Planning Commission denied the latest rezoning proposal to expand the mosque by 20,000 square feet. It's located at Lawrenceville Highway and Hood Road.

There has been a year-long legal dispute between Lilbu and the Muslim congregation of Dar-E-Abbas. The plan no longer calls for a gym or cemetery.

On Monday, Lilbu's planning commission heard from both sides. The planning commission recommended some technical changes and denied the rezoning.

The city council will consider a revised plan next Monday.
