Jessica Colotl was sentenced Monday in a Cobb County court following a traffic conviction last week.

A judge sentenced Colotl to 12 months in jail with three days to serve and the rest on probation. She also received a $1000 fine and 20 hours of community service.

Colotl's lawyer is appealing the sentence.

Colotl is the Kennesaw State student and illegal immigrant who was pulled over in a traffic stop.

Last week, she was found guilty of driving without a license.

Colotl recently got a leaer's permit and a social security card. That's allowed since the govement stayed her deportation until she graduates.

The judge agreed to stay the sentence pending the outcome of the appeal, which is expected to take six months.
