Intern Lauren Garcia Paralyzed After Midtown Shooting
ATLANTA -- A 23-year-old woman has been left paralyzed since a triple shooting in midtown Atlanta last week.
Police said 22-year-old Nkosi Thandiwe shot three women at the Proscenium building on Crescent Avenue on Friday.
Around noon, Thandiwe shot and killed 26-year-old Brittney Watts on the third-floor parking garage, police said. They said he stole her car and shot Lauren Garcia and Tiffany Ferenczy, 24, on his way out. Gunshot wounds left Garcia, an MSL Group inte, paralyzed, but family members said Ferenczy is expected to make a full recovery.
Thandiwe worked as a security guard at a nearby building, but police have not said there was a connection between him and the victims. Police sources told Channel 2’s Ryan Young that video cameras in the area of the parking garage captured Thandiwe walking around before the shooting but it didn’t look like he was waiting for any particular person.
After a man hunt lasted for several hours, Thandiwe waited at an office building on Peachtree Street with his father and lawyer to tu himself in to police. He was charged with murder and aggravated assault.
Young got a hold of the paperwork Thandiwe filled out to purchase the .40-caliber automatic gun. Thandiwe had no record and bought the weapon legally at a pawn shop in southwest Atlanta.
