Ice remains, but area creeps back to normal

ATLANTA - The Georgia Department of Transportation says progress is being made in clearing major highways after the big snowstorm.

DOT spokesman Mark McKinnon said Thursday that workers are still trying to clear the left lanes on metro Atlanta's freeways and that drivers are being asked to stay out of those lanes.

He says drivers are also being asked to move the cars they abandoned when the storm hit Sunday night and Monday. He says the cars are hampering road crews.

McKinnon says many side streets are still being reported as impassable.

He says DOT crews continue to work 12-hour shifts to clear away ice and snow.
