Hearing Held For Officer Anwar Bradley Fired After Controversial Traffic Stop
Fired Atlanta Police Officer Anwar Bradley is fighting to get his job back.

An Atlanta police officer fired after a controversial traffic stop is fighting to get his job back.

Officer Anwar Bradley questioned two men about drugs, thousands of dollars in cash and a weapon all found in their vehicle.

Bradley spotted the two men sitting in a car outside a closed leasing office at an apartment complex. He said the two men gave him permission to search the car. He said he found a small amount of marijuana, $16,000 in cash and a gun. Bradley said he disposed of the alleged marijuana.

He never arrested anyone, saying instead that he used his discretion in letting them go. Bradley was fired over the incident.
Chief George Tuer said the officer did several things wrong. He said that while an officer does have discretion in making arrests, they do not have the same discretion in dealing with property.

Bradley also allegedly mishandled the money. One of the suspects later filed a complaint alleging that Bradley took the money, which tued out to be false. Bradley also allegedly got details of the incident wrong in a later interview.

The personnel board will decide whether to reduce the punishment or uphold the firing.
