Hannah Nicholson: 22-year-old awaiting lung transplant dies
A Habersham County woman in need of a double lung transplant has passed away.
Hannah Nicholson, 22, contracted MRSA and had been at Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta since August 2014.
She didn't have MRSA anymore, but contracted RSDA which has destroyed her lungs.
In order to stay alive, Hannah needed a lung transplant, but was told by Emory Hospital that they would not consider her for a transplant because her BMI (Body Mass Index) was too high. Her parents say their daughter gained weight while in the hospital due to fluid retention.
The Nicholson family is frustrated with Emory University Hospital and wants to bring attention to their daughter's case.
Morse Diggs first spoke with Hannah Nicholson's mother and father on Friday when she was battling for her life.
”I believe if Emory Hospital can take a chance with Ebola patients, why can't they take a chance with Hannah, her mother said.
Nicholson's parents fought to the end to save their daughter's life. She was in the hospital 69 days when she suddenly took a tu for the worse and died early Sunday.
