A Hall County corrections officer is hospitalized with serious injuries after he was assaulted by an inmate at the county's detention center.
Hall County Sheriff's Col. Jeff Strickland said Deputy Aaron Nguyen was repeatedly punched in the face Monday.
Nguyen suffered fractures to the face and was being treated at Northeast Georgia Medical Center.
Strickland said 24-year-old Devonte Hammond of Atlanta was charged in the attack. He said Nguyen was escorting Hammond to a disciplinary cell at the time of the assault.
