Police have charged a man they say shot and killed his mother and sister in easte Gordon County Friday.

The Gordon County Sheriff's Office says they received a request from family member to make a welfare check at a residence located in the 900 block of Georgia Highway 411 in Ranger just around 11:45 p.m. Friday. They found Edna Sue Fields, 71, of Ranger, and Rebecka June Wade, 45, of Calhoun, dead inside from apparent gunshot wounds.

Detectives believe Douglas Glenn Parker, 54, of Dalton, was the gunman. Police were able to catch up to Parker in Murphy, North Carolina.

Police believe the murder stemmed from an ongoing domestic problem within the family.

Another person was taken into custody for questioning, but was not arrested by police. The name of that person of interest has not yet been released.
