Georgia Tech student injured in midtown fire

ATLANTA, Ga. -

Federal authorities have converged on an apartment building in Midtown Atlanta after a reported fire injured a Georgia Tech student.

Late this afteoon, fire authorities responded to an incident inside an apartment building. The male student has reportedly suffered significant bu injuries, authorities say. 

Multiple investigative agencies, working at the State and Federal levels, are now on the scene, taking a closer look at the situation.

The name of the student has not been issued. Witnesses say the apartment was badly damaged in the fire. Witnesses tell FOX 5 that the student was from Turkey, but no further information has been confirmed by authorities.

Shortly after 10pm, Georgia Tech issued this statement:

Georgia Tech is working with law enforcement to notify the victim's family. Until that notification is made the Institute is not able to release the victim's information. We are able to confirm a Georgia Tech graduate student was involved in an incident involving a fire in a building off of 10th street this evening. Our primary conce is to provide appropriate assistance to the victim and for his family as well as his classmates. We continue to cooperate with the investigation of incident.
