Authorities say a 27-year-old Georgia Southe University student has been found dead in a swimming pool.

Statesboro police say Eric Daniel Hopkins of Statesboro was in the pool with several friends early Thursday moing.

WTOC-TV in Savannah reports that Hopkins' friends went inside, and when they retued, they found Hopkins unresponsive in the pool. Authorities say police and rescuers tried to resuscitate him after he was pulled from the water.

The man's body was taken to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation crime laboratory in Savannah for an autopsy. Police say they have no evidence of foul play in the death, which was still under investigation Friday.
