Harris County Sheriff said one of their deputies is recovering after he was shot in the head during a traffic stop early Saturday evening around 7:30 p.m.

Deputy Jamie White suffered a single shot to the head, above his left eye, while walking up to the vehicle which had three people inside, Harris County Sheriff Mike Jolley said.

Police said the suspect was driving a 1994 blue Chevrolet Caprice that fled the scene.

Witnesses did stop to help the deputy White who was rushed to the Medical Center and is being treated following surgery

Law enforcement officials confirmed that a suspect, 24-year-old Joe Lee Garrett, who was involved in the shooting was taken into custody after tuing himself in on Saturday night.
