Georgia Man Steven Barnes, Gets Death Sentence in SC in Teen'S Murder

EDGEFIELD, S.C. - An Edgefield County jury has sentenced a man to death in the torture and killing of a 16-year-old boy he thought stole money from him.

Prosecutor Donnie Myers said 32-year-old Steven Baes beat Samuel Sturrup with a pipe after kidnapping him from Augusta, Ga., in September 2001, stuffed him in a trunk and drove him to South Carolina.

Authorities say Baes forced Sturrup into the woods, where he ordered four other people to shoot the teen once before Baes killed him with a shot to the head.

The killing was discovered three months later when a dog found a skull with a bullet hole.

Investigators say Baes was arrested in his Georgia home, where he had imprisoned four teenage girls and forced them to have sex for money.
