GBI To Investigate Prison Abuse Allegations

ATLANTA -- A Georgia Bureau of Investigation spokesman said the agency has been asked to look into allegations of abuse at several Georgia prisons.

John Bankhead said Georgia Department of Corrections Commissioner on Wednesday asked the GBI to investigate.

The Georgia Department of Corrections was forced to lock down four prisons last month after authorities discovered that inmates were launching the protest. The inmates said the protest seeking better work and living conditions was coordinated using contraband cell phones.

Bankhead said there's no set timeline for when the investigation will be completed due to factors beyond investigators' control.
